Contract employees for the city of Inglewood are crying foul. In 2014, the city’s finance department was forced to write off nearly $4 million dollars worth of parking tickets, due to insufficient details of who the tickets belonged to. The city responded by contracting out the entire department to Serco. Serco received a $25 million dollar contract in 2014. for parking enforcement, traffic control and meter operations. Are Black employees being forced out of city hall just as Black families are being forced out of the city?
A concerned Inglewood resident has reached out to 2UrbanGirls over how Serco employees are being treated. Specifically, how African-American employees are being discriminated against. Does Mayor Butts know about this?
I recently talked to a couple of the parking enforcement officers a few mornings ago, and their claiming that the majority of the “older black” people who were hired at the beginning of the contract, are basically being fired left and right, for things that “others” who are not “black” are not even getting a write up about. I advised them to reach out and possibly speak to some higher-ups, but was told that the new person in charge, has made it clear that if they complain, they are next. I feel like we don’t only have a housing issue, but speaking to a few of the officers they are really worried. Basically looking for some real suggestions, the city was no help.
The sentiment they are getting is that since the new stadium is coming, with possibly higher pay rates and promotions being given. The new management is on a mission to force them all out by any means necessary. Bullying, mental abuse, unfair and unwarranted write-ups and if they question any of the treatment, they are being suspended with no paperwork given. My guess is to make sure there is no paper trail.He also said these are not and were not problem employee’s of any kind, matter of fact they have been accomodated and rewarded for their hard-work and dedication to the job. So far he says 3 have been harassed so bad, they quit, two fired and now their saying there’s been secret talk of them going after the lady who works the late shift. One of the hispanic officers over heard them talking in spanish about her, he decided to let someone know because he felt it was wrong and basically racist.
