
Former Los County Supervisor Gloria Molina today endorsed Jan Perry in the 2020 race to fill the open seat in the 2nd Supervisorial District. Considered a trailblazer, Molina was the first Latina to serve on both the Los Angeles City Council and Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and is highly regarded as an elected official who put the needs of her constituents above all else. Ms. Molina issued the following statement:
“Jan Perry is a woman who can get things done and I’m proud to support her candidacy for LA County’s 2ndSupervisorial District. I know first-hand that a County Supervisor needs to represent people with a diverse set of interests from diverse communities. I’ve worked alongside Jan and I know she takes great care to respect the needs and cultures of the people she represents. She will make an excellent County Supervisor.”
Perry and Molina worked together to on the Grand Avenue project which included the development of Grand Avenue Park. The venue has become a gathering place for Angelenos from all walks of life to celebrate and exercise their first amendment rights. Molina was the guiding force that ensured the project was designed for the greater Los Angeles community.
“Supervisor Molina’s has a life in public service that is unparalleled and still evolving,” said Jan Perry. She continued, “I’m grateful to have the support of a public servant who shattered more than one glass ceiling and worked so hard to improve the quality of life for her constituents.”
Jan Perry served 12 years on the Los Angeles City Council as the representative of the 9th District which encompasses Downtown and South LA. She is considered one of the architects of the Downtown renaissance and was responsible for catalytic projects such as LA Live. During her tenure, she was responsible for the creation of $15 billion in investment, $52 million in net new tax revenue for the City of Los Angeles, and 90,000 full-time jobs.
From July 2013 to December 2018 Perry served as the general manager of the City of Los Angeles Economic Workforce Development Department (EWDD) where she oversaw a broad range of programs offering assistance to business, job seekers and disconnected youth. During her tenure, the department enrolled 91,000 people in its training and placement programs. Currently, she serves as the executive director of the Infrastructure Funding Alliance, a national initiative to meet future infrastructure, economic development, and environmental challenges. She lives in Ladera Heights with her daughter and her rescue dog Frank.
