Senator Holly J. Mitchell has publicly stated her intentions to run for Los Angeles County Supervisor for the 2nd District. The seat currently held by Mark Ridley-Thomas. A review of state filings show this isn’t the only seat she seeks once she is termed out. She is also sitting on nearly $428k in her Holly Mitchell for Senate 2018 campaign account.
Holly Mitchell got her start serving the community as the former CEO of Crystal Stairs Inc. An organization that assists single parents with child care expenses.
Mitchell then began her political career in 2010 by narrowly defeating Reggie Jones-Sawyer to become the House Representative of the former 47th District. That was the toughest campaign she has had to date.
Since 2010, she has ran against relative nobody’s, cruising to easy victories each election cycle. Her last election she ran unopposed. Does Mitchell have what it takes to run against the likes of LA Council President Herb Wesson and former LA Councilwoman Jan Perry?
With Wesson’s legal troubles, and possible federal indictment, African-American voters deserve to be represented by someone without legal woes hanging over their head. It still doesn’t negate the fact Mitchell has never had to run against anyone with real name recognition.
Perhaps Mitchell doubts her ability as well since records show she has also opened campaign committee #1415447 to possibly run for Secretary of State in 2022.
