The Compton election for District 1 and 4 is two months away and from the looks of things the incumbents will remain in their seats.
Opponents of Councilwomen Janna Zurita and Emma Shariff have failed to have an active website, haven’t announced any endorsements and appear to be solely running on social media platforms.
Councilwoman Zurita’s campaign page on Facebook appears to be run by her sister Satra, as the majority of posts center around Compton Unifed School District activities. Janna has secured a powerful endorsement from a labor union but has no platform on what she will do differently, or how she will improve her district or the city as a whole.
Councilwoman Emma Shariff is taking her re-election serious. She has an active campaign website and is actively seeking donations. Her homepage features a photo with her and Compton City Manager Cecil Rhambo and State Senator Steve Bradford.
Despite the passage of Measure P, Compton streets remain deplorable and full of potholes. The council, city manager, city attorney and city staff continue to shift blame to one another all while money continues to roll in and not rolling out in the form of asphalt.
Both Inez Adkins and Michelle Chambers have campaign photos but no websites as of yet and no endorsements. Chambers has brought on campaign veteran Bernard Dory has her manager yet it is unclear what their strategy is to compete against the incumbent.
Ron Green is the only candidate to publicly lay out a platform as to why he is running and what he will do if elected. You can read it in its entirety by clicking here.
