Inglewood voters will elect new members to the Inglewood city council in 2020. In an effort to keep a certain councilman’s name at the forefront of senior voters minds, the city has named the senior center in the name of a sitting councilmember and his father.
Eloy Morales Sr. is credited with brining soccer to the city of Inglewood Parks & Recreation Department. It would have made more sense to rename the newly renovated soccer field at Centinela Park after him, but seniors don’t play soccer.
In June 2018, Inglewood voters decided to extend the terms of all area council members, city treasurer, city clerk and school board member terms from 2019 to 2020 to coincide with the Presidential election.
Eloy Morales Jr. has been named in a Pulitzer Prize winning investigation in the Daily Breeze, involving his mentor and former Inglewood District 3 Councilman Jose Fernandez.

And like Inglewood Mayor James Butts, it is alleged that Morales Jr. profited from his vote for the Inglewood trash contract. A Daily Breeze investigation reveals Morales Jr. has benefitted from many of his “clients” he has voted to approve Inglewood contracts for. A complaint has been filed with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office related to Morales Jr. accepting a consulting contract from Pacific Waste, a Consolidated/Republic subsidiary.

Ordinance 16-04 calls for the senior library to be named for the Morales’ for as long as it is in existence. The city council just leveraged the senior center as collateral for bond debt.
Eloy Morales and Ralph Franklin were on the council as the city deteriorated and nearly went bankrupt before Mayor Butts was elected back in 2011. Morales and Franklin allowed the city’s infrastructure to crumble, city services to be reduced and employees were laid off and NOW he is deserving of a library being named after him?
