Crime is NOT down in the city of Inglewood despite the rhetoric you hear from Mayor James T. Butts’ mouth.
Former First Lady Michelle Obama would not appreciate Mayor Butts’ campaign team photoshopping a picture of the two of them together in an effort to deceive Inglewood voters into thinking everything is hunky dory in our city.
Despite Butts’ nearly four decades in law enforcement, no one is discussing his inability to keep the city safe as we have just recorded murder number 15 with two months left in the year.
The most recent murder occurred in the highly sought after District 1 in the 3300 Block of W. 84th St., where the average home is selling for upwards of $700k.

According to the city website there were a total of 13 murders in 2017.
Curbed LA recently conducted an interview of the mayoral candidates where Butts touted the city’s safety record to justify our city’s Police Chief Mark Fronterotta earning over $500k in compensation and benefits and a $60k annual bonus for a two week training class.
What is the most pressing issue facing Inglewood?
The management of our success, making sure all of our mass transit options match our development, ensuring our development partners follow through with the goals of the development agreement for 35 percent local hire, to continue to push our unemployment rate down, and to continue our eighth consecutive year of the lowest crime rates in the history of the city. [Note: The city’s crime rate has fluctuated from 2010 to 2017, and the number of overall crimes and the overall crime rate were up between 2016 and 2017.]
Opponent Marc T. Little, himself a victim of crime, where he was shot point blank and lost his leg, is campaigning on creating more opportunities for our youth via college and career. Little serves on the board of many local charter schools.
Mayor Butts has only added a quasi youth club in the Library parking garage and is insistent it is not his job to worry about what is happening within Inglewood Unified School District (IUSD) he tells residents to “call the state”.
Instead of participating in a recent mayoral candidates forum, he sent children their to carry posters of President Donald Trump and children in cages. 2UrbanGirls reached out to Mayor Butts directly to inquire on this and got no response.
Mayor Butts instead held his own event at a local hair salon where the only visible people there were paid supporters, a couple of city commissioners and a fellow councilmember.
Despite all his talking, Inglewood is on track to surpass the 2016 murder total of 19.
Former Inglewood Mayor’s Danny Tabor and Roosevelt Dorn are supporting Marc Little for mayor.
