2UrbanGirls is assisting Start Now Studios with spreading the word on their upcoming documentary titled “Immigrant Voices of America”. They are seeking funders to produce a film that highlights personal stories and contributions to immigrants living in the United States. This film is directed by Miguel Angel Duran and ten-episode documentary will be 10 minutes in length and will showcase the hardships, triumphs, and aspirations of our global immigrant siblings as they strive to achieve a better life in the US.
Why is Duran making this documentary?
America is a country grown by immigrants. As a proud First generation American, my parents came to this country, inspired to find a better life not only for themselves but for their children. One of the best ways I know to combat misconception, is turning the camera towards our fellow immigrant family. In providing a platform to hear individual journeys and reasons for coming to this country, we can all empathize with their struggle.
This project is not only personal, but timely. We need to remind ourselves and those who may believe that human beings are illegal, that we are in this together. Storytelling is the best way to reconnect with the bond we all have with our immigrant roots. Hardliners will never change the fact that people come from all over the world to make the US their home. It’s important that we share the perspective of those from all backgrounds. I hope viewers will be able to humanize our subjects, and will see a part of themselves, or their families, in the stories told; because the story of immigration doesn’t just belong to one group of people, it belongs to all of us.
