God doesn’t like ugly. 2UrbanGirls has received a couple of letter between Compton City Manager Cecil Rhambo and Gilda Valdez, Chief of Staff of SEIU 721. In short, Rhambo is requesting new representation for Compton employees and in turn Kevin Monk’s attorney is threatening to sue.

Monk currently represents employees in both the City of Compton and Inglewood and has been accused by employees and 2UrbanGirls of not representing employees to the best of his ability due to his cozy relationship with the city’s elected officials.

Monk unsuccessfully ran for Compton city council, as Mayor Aja Brown’s candidate. Based on recent conversations between Compton employees and 2UrbanGirls, they will be more than happy to support Rhambo in seeking new representation. They have gone so far as to attend Compton council meetings to vent their frustrations that Monk is not being an effective intermediary between their management.
Inglewood employees have fared no better under Monk’s leadership as they saw their last contract negotiation remove arbitration rights in exchange for a $663 bonus and key members of the negotiation have been retaliated against by losing their job and being put on frivolous administrative investigations for picketing at the Mayor’s in-laws house five years ago in protest of not receiving raises.
2UrbanGirls suggests they seek out Elliot Petty.
Neither Cecil Rhambo or Kevin Monk could be reached for comment.
