Republican actress Stacey Dash isn’t so clueless after all. Despite publicly withdrawing from the race for Congressional District 44 and photoshopping her photo against various district landmarks, she has submitted her first campaign filings and has managed to raise more funds than the popular Compton Mayor Aja Brown.

2UrbanGirls contacted the elections division of the CA Secretary of States office who verified that despite Dash and Brown publicly withdrawing from the race, they did so after the official filing period ended. This means they will still be on the June 5th primary ballots.
2UrbanGirls compared this to a local Assembly race where former LA Councilman Dennis Zine filed to run for Assembly District 45 and still managed to receive over 2,500 votes, despite publicly withdrawing, which helped force a run-off between Democrat Jesse Gabriel and Republican Justin Clark.
After our initial article discussing the struggle Brown and Dash faced to raise funds, we received an email from a Congressional insider who brought this to 2UrbanGirls attention.
California’s primaries don’t have a 50+1 rule. So no matter what, the top two finishers in the primary go on to a general election. Even if one candidate gets a majority in the primary, there is always a runoff with the second place finisher. So someone will be in a runoff with the Congresswoman.
As the media continues to shed light on the dismal job the Compton mayor is doing with the city’s finances and the latest revelation she championed a sales tax measure to fix, despite voting to use funds already available for street repairs, to balance the city’s budget, it is no mystery as to why she can’t raise any substantial money.

Stop sleeping on Stacey Dash for if she is able to continue to raise funds, she actually has a shot to be in the runoff with Rep. Nanette Barragan in November.
