You can’t call Cynthia Nixon clueless. She is a native New Yorker and a genuine supporter of public transportation who uses it daily. Many of us know her better as “Miranda” from Sex and the City. 2UrbanGirls wasn’t surprised to see her former co-stars support her so we asked friend of 2UrbanGirls Kevin Powell, a noted author and New York resident, his thoughts on her declaring against the twice elected incumbent Andrew Cuomo.

Yes, I do support
@CynthiaNixon in her bid to become governor of New York State, where I have lived over half my life now. I met her years back, at an education event, and I immediately admired her commitment for life opportunities for all people, equally.I also need to say
@CynthiaNixon has clearly put in the work for many years as an activist on the ground on issues that matter to all kinds of people in New York, in America. Before Dwight Eisenhower became president he was a military man and president of a college. I can point to many examples of famous men who became politicians, elected officials. There is a clear double-standard when women decide to run for office. Run
@CynthiaNixon run.We have got to be more intelligent than just to obsess over someone’s celebrity. I am listening closely to what
@CynthiaNixon is saying. Her politics are my politics: a world where people of all backgrounds will have an opportunity to have an opportunity. That is called vision.

Nixon’s biggest pet peeve? The unreliability of the city’s transit system which is the heartbeat of how residents travel around the five boroughs.
Here in Los Angeles, our transit system, too is failing. Despite declines in ridership, the LA County Metropolitan Transit Authority (LACMTA) continues to expand and displace families in the process. A recent investigation by David Goldstein/CBS found that LACMTA is wasting taxpayers money on frivolous parties and pet projects and YET the board still hasn’t resolved issues surrounding the “last mile”. It keeps many people from using the bus/rail because once you deboard, you still have to figure out how to get to the “last mile” of your trip.
