Actress Stacy Dash has announced her intentions to quit the Congressional race for the 44th District. CA State Assembly candidate Dennis Zine also dropped out of the race for a special election for Assembly District 45 but because he did so after the filing deadline, his name will still appear and the ballot. Candidates must now spend money to remind voters he dropped out. There is growing speculation Compton Mayor Aja Brown was planning to drop out as well.

2UrbanGirls received multiple calls that the mayor was scheduled today for an interview with the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor for their endorsement and abruptly cancelled.
With the first reporting deadline around the corner, there is growing speculation as to whether Brown and Dash would be able to raise the amounts needed to compete against the incumbent Rep. Nanette Barragan. Making things harder for Brown are recent allegations of continued fiscal malfeasance and a cache of missing guns from a vault in the former city hall.
After hosting a Town Hall meeting in Compton last night, with approximately 50 residents in attendance, Rep. Barragan listened to residents continue to complain about issues in the city and Barragan stating she will be meeting with City Manager Cecil Rhambo to discuss among other things, potholes. Barragan also discussed her work on legislation related to assault weapons.
Although Mayor Brown’s supporters, and social media posts indicate she is still in the running, she has already spoken publicly that members of the Democrat party asked her to run to stave of Dash’s chances of entering the general election in November.
Like Zine, Dash wouldn’t have to campaign or raise funds if in fact her name will remain on the ballot.
If her name will in fact remain on the ballot, it is all the more imperative that Mayor Brown stays the course until the end.
