Congresswoman Maxine Waters doesn’t appear to be a fan of eminent domain.

With less than a weeks notice, the public learned that the L.A. County Board of Supervisors voted to take private property located at the intersection of Manchester Blvd and Vermont Ave. in LA Council District 8.
Although City of Los Angeles staffers held up the sale of critical parcels, located within the private property, the BOS took initial steps to seize the property. Waters office dispatched staff to the public hearing in support of the residents and the areas Neighborhood Council, who had no say in the matter.
In an excerpt from an article titled “READY FOR A FIGHT“, Waters publicly praised Westchester residents for organizing against critical issues in their area:
“Westchester is a community I wish people could take some lessons from. They don’t take any crap,” she says. “Whether you’re LAX or dealing with the wetlands, the community will organize. Westchester people really love their community and organize around their issues.”
It’s time for South Los Angeles residents to come out and do the same.
**The Southeast Neighborhood Council has publicly denounced being a partner in this community meeting**

2UrbanGirls reached out to Southeast NC President Moises Rosales who stated the council understands the magnitude of the communities concerns, and discussion on the topic, but his council had to adhere to bylaws which include voting on whether to publicly support the meeting. He claims his fellow NC members didn’t have enough notice to approve supporting the meeting, despite his own acknowledgement of the severity of the discussion. Perhaps he doesn’t know the Brown Act allows for both special and emergency meetings to convene.
Ironically, the Southwest NC did have time to vote and are publicly supporting the meeting. Is the Southeast NC board in cahoots with the city and district councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson to stifle public opposition?
