Sydney Kamlager-Dove has prevailed in the special election to represent Assembly District 54. She succeeds Sebastian Ridley-Thomas who hasn’t been in the public eye since resigning for “health” reasons. With Kamlager’s win, folks are lining up for her seat on the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) Board of Trustees. Two candidates have already announced their intentions via the Basil Kimbrew ran email list “California Friends of the African-American Caucus”.
Dr. Christine Burke Adams has announced her candidacy. She comes from a well-connected political family. Besides being married to “The Trusted Messenger” marketing guru Brian Ross Adams, her link to politics is her father Dr. William Burke serves as Chairman of the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD), his wife is former L.A. County Supervisor Yvonne Brathwaite-Burke and her younger sister Autumn Burke is the Assemblywoman for District 62, which includes Inglewood. Dr. Adams is a former teacher and vice-principal in the Hawthorne School District.
Dallas Fowler has also announced her desire to run for Seat #3. Fowler unsuccessfully ran for LACCD Seat #4 last year despite receiving over 100,000 votes and like Kamlager, is an alumnus of the Los Angeles African-American Women’s Public Policy Institute (LAAAWPPI). Fowler is an entrepreneur and is Principal of Daltek Global Solutions, LLC a boutique business development consulting firm specializing in digital and print media communications.
