2UrbanGirls spoke with Lt. Theresa Williams, who is one of the on site pastors, who helped work with the Clippers Foundation to select the 30 families who were invited to participate. The families regularly spend time at the center for support services along with participating in the many activities the center offers.
According to Lt. Williams over 100 families apply for the opportunity to attend the annual event and receive gifts for their children. The parents were surprised with gift cards, for food and clothes, along with a portion of their rent being paid for the month of January.
The families mingled with Clipper players: Jawun Evans, Montrezl Harrell, Wes Johnson, Willie Reed and Sindarius Thornwell, who read books, signed autographs and handed out presents to the children.
The annual event began under the previous owner and current owner, Steve Ballmer, has ensured the families would continued to be supported.
The L.A. Clippers Foundation Adopt-A-Family event is part of the NBA Cares Season of Giving. Clippers holiday initiatives began earlier this month with the 29th annual Teamwork at the Table Thanksgiving event and will continue through the end of December.
