Will the behavior of a member of the CA Board of Equalization (BOE) lead to the agencies downfall? The Committee on Budget and Fiscal Review introduced Senate Bill 86, in January of this year, which seeks to remove many of the duties that currently fall under the BOE. The first reading passed the Senate 26-9 with the only Black Senators, Steve Bradford and Holly Mitchell voting in favor of the agencies overhaul. The latest scrutiny at the agency, which involved purchasing of office furniture, came from a State employee, which prompted new discussions to dismantle the agencies duties. SB 86 hopes to achieve those goals. To outright demolish the agency would require a constitutional amendment.
