Compton residents can rejoice! After abruptly closing, the Hub’s favorite BBQ joint is preparing to reopen under NEW MANAGEMENT. The company’s co-founder, Damien Scroggins, has a new business partner and is in the process of reopening at its original location, under a new name. That’s if Building and Safety and Planning departments stop placing roadblocks on the structure.
Scroggins is a Compton native and eager to reopen in Compton’s fourth district, yet, many code violations exist on the building, that the owner would need to address first.
Scroggins is set to meet with Council woman Emma Shariff to discuss the city’s Section 108 Loan program.
In June 2015, elected officials moved around funds, to award, Pressed Juicery, $100,000 from the aforementioned program, to open in the city. Specifically at the Metro station.
A review of the their website fails to list a location in the city of Compton. Repayment terms of the loan were not included on the June 16, 2015, regular city council agenda.

The city of Compton was recently recognized as one of the most business friendly cities in LA County, yet, Scroggins is extremely frustrated with the city, thus far.
If he isn’t able to open in the Hub, he will be in Inglewood. A commercial developer reached out to give him space in a desirable and refurbished strip mall, minutes from the NFL stadium.
Many local businesses found themselves with contracts with The Forum after it reopened and we foresee the same happening when the stadium opens.
Should the biz reopen in Compton or start fresh in Inglewood?
The building has to be brought up to code no matter what business is there! If there are fines for the city of Compton residents for not maintaining their property, there should be fines for commercial business owners. Bludsoes was a thriving business so there is no reason why that building was not maintained! In short;FIX IT OR SELL IT!

The location is actually in the 4th district, not in the 3rd district.

The building is in bad shape per the planning dept. In a statement from a building official it’s sib divided and a health hazard. Don’t blame the city because the property owner don’t want to do what’s needed to lease a safe and healthy building to a potential client. Don want the health dept. To not only come down on bledso.s and the city at the same time. Don’t right the first time song don’t have to come.back and do it again and put blame on someone else.
The issue exists on how to bring the building up to code. Due to costs related to the project, the business is seeking assistance from the city, if it is available. If funds were allocated to a business that allegedly hasn’t opened, are those same funds available for this business?
How can we be business friendly and hold up permits?
