COMPTON (2UG) – Is the City Clerk preparing to intercept the people’s choices for city council?
The December 6 Compton city council agenda includes a request from City Clerk Alita Godwin, to conduct an all mail election in April. The city wants to only accept mailed in ballots for mayor, city attorney, treasurer and council.
As the mayor and council grapple with the continued displeasure of the residents, it appears there is an air of desperation of the Black establishment currently housed on the Compton dais.

Mayor Aja Brown is set to attend a campaign fundraiser in Inglewood, sponsored by marijuana lobbyists and hosted by Los Angeles County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas on December 14, who at one time wanted to tax marijuana to help the homeless.
Earlier this year, a press release was issued that the Board of Supervisors acting on a July 5 motion by Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, and amendments from Supervisors Sheila Kuehl and Michael Antonovich, the Board of Supervisors called for drafting three potential November 2016 ballot measures asking voters to consider a parcel tax, a sales tax or a marijuana tax to pay for programs to address Los Angeles County’s crisis of homelessness.
After the ballot measures came to the board for approval the following week, Ridley-Thomas changed his mind and voted against it. It is unknown whether the same lobbyists donated to any of Ridley-Thomas’ campaign accounts.
Why would the marijuana industry support Aja Brown’s re-election when its not allowed in City limits?
