Meruelo Media’s flagship Los Angeles radio station is failing. Despite ramping up efforts to be a community radio sponsor, 93.5 KDAY continues to bring up the rear in urban radio. According to the most recent ratings, KDAY is no longer an “urban” station and have switched to the more poplular “Rhythmic AC” category. After lauding the diversity and rich history of the station, the new owners have switched up and are running it into the ground. Radio personalities and staff are exiting in droves and program director Adrian Scott has done nothing to retain listeners or offer changes to the stations programming. The station mysteriously lost half of tha Goodfellas and now play church and football games on Sunday’s. Aye dios mijo.

The station has also resorted to encouraging their listeners to go in debt for the holidays by taking out loans from predatory lending companies.
“Back in the Day” music includes more than rap. Regular concerts seem to rotate the same rap artists. The 90’s was more than rap music.
I wish KDAY went back to the days of inviting schools on air to do their “Top 5”. Debut local artists who will bring their followers to the station. Host local talent shows to highlight up and coming artists. Just thoughts…
