The city of Gardena has no leader on the dais. The Gardena city council voted 3-1 to not appoint a new mayor to replace former Mayor Paul Tanaka. After his conviction and sentencing, the city has been left without leadership in the mayor’s seat since June.

Current council members Dan Medina and Tasha Cerda have both declared intentions to run for mayor.
Councilman Medina and his wife play a huge role organizing and planning various community events held throughout the city annually and Councilwoman Cerda has a large presence in Gardena as the owner of an internet radio show, which focuses on politics.
Political newcomer Charity Chandler-Cole is gearing up for her first campaign and looks forward to sharing her vision for the city with Gardena voters.
Gardena elections will be held Tuesday, March 7, 2017. Should make for an interesting seven months.
