Inglewood Unified School Board Member D’Artagnan Scorza Receives 2016 UCLA Award
Inglewood, CA — Dr. D’Artagnan Scorza, Ph.D. received the 2016 UCLA Award for Recent Graduate Achievement on Saturday, May 7th. The UCLA Awards were bestowed upon nine alumni, including Scorza, in front of 300 members of the UCLA community at Royce Hall on UCLA’s campus.

In awarding Scorza 2016 Recent Graduate Achievement Award, they wrote, “In a relatively short period of time, his [D’Artagnan Scorza] academic and teaching accomplishments, and his exceptional service to the UC and the Los Angeles community can already be considered achievements of a lifetime.”
Scorza graduated from UCLA with his Bachelors degree in 2007 and earned his Ph.D. in 2013. While at UCLA, he participated in the Alliance for Equal Opportunity in Education and the UCLA Task Force on African American Enrollment, which helped increase enrollment among African American students in 2007. He also served as a UC Student Regent from 2007-2009, where he was instrumental in expanding access to educational opportunities for African-American and Latino youth.
“I’m humbled and honored by this award from my Alma Mater. It’s a reflection that UCLA values social justice, diversity and opportunity and is a place that welcomes community centered engagement,” said Scorza.

Dr. D’Artagnan Scorza is serving his first term on the Inglewood Unified School District Board of Education. He has been driving change in Inglewood’s schools and holding the state accountable to put the students first. Scorza is the founder and executive director of the Social Justice Learning Institute, a non-profit organization that works to help our communities achieve health and educational equity. His leadership has helped establish community gardens, a farmers market, and create healthy lifestyle centers in Inglewood.
