At last night’s regular school board meeting, Compton Unified School District (CUSD) trustees appointed a member of the community, to the seat once held by Charles Davis. This action comes on the day the school’s teacher sent out a flyer to picket at certain schools.

Under the tutelage of former board President Micah Ali, CUSD made headlines for being on track to ensure Compton’s children were equipped with a robust education. Although some trustees have not sent their own children to schools in Compton, trustees insist they are doing right by the students.
Unfortunately, the teaching personnel are headed into year five of contract negotiations.
Teachers have been in contact with 2 Urban Girls over the issues of not having a contract. Board insiders shared that the union is focusing on a few teachers who sued the district to cover their retirement benefits, although they had already signed off that CUSD didn’t have to provide them.

Students aren’t achieving when their teacher is out picketing instead of teaching. Students aren’t achieving when teachers are unsure of their work status. Students aren’t achieving when their education is being leveraged in exchange for raises.
Superintendent Darin Brawley sent out a message via local newspaper outlets, however, this blog wasn’t included in the media distribution list.
2 Urban Girls did reach trustee Ali by phone who confirmed that Alma Pleasant, no relation to Betty Pleasant, was selected as the new trustee. According to her LinkedIn bio, she works in Parks & Recreation for the city of Compton. She is also a small business owner.
He had no comment on the contract negotiations with the teachers.
