COMPTON, CA— In a stunning blow to his opposition while simultaneously underscoring his tremendous district-based grassroots support, today State Senator Isadore Hall’s campaign for California’s 44th Congressional District announced that it has confirmed support from over 75% of the district’s California State Central Committee, L.A. County Committee and Club Appointed Democratic Party Delegates.
According to the California Democratic Party’s new bylaws, candidates must received 70% of support from the district’s delegates at the “pre-convention endorsement caucus” in January in order to win a recommendation for endorsement at the California Democratic Party convention. The “pre-convention endorsement caucus” is comprised of not only California Democratic Party State Central Committee delegates who vote at convention, but also of L.A. County Committee and district-based Club Appointed Democratic Party Delegates.
Significantly, all eligible “pre-convention endorsement caucus” delegates can vote early by mail prior to the caucus meeting in late January. So far, over 75% of the total possible votes for the “pre-convention endorsement caucus” have been submitted and cast for Senator Hall, thus virtually guaranteeing him the California Democratic Party’s recommendation for convention. Once ballots are cast, they cannot be revoked, changed or rescinded.
At convention, all candidate recommendations are added to the California Democratic Party’s consent calendar for simple ratification. Responding to news of the overwhelming support from the 44th District’s delegates, State Senator Isadore Hall released the following statement:
“It’s a tremendous honor for me to have the confidence and the support of these 44th District-based Party delegates. They’re from our community and work tirelessly for our community as leaders in the Democratic Party. Moreover, they’re the lifeblood of our district’s grassroots activism and their support means a great deal to me. Beyond having their support, I look forward to joining forces with them in my campaign to get my message out by door knocking, phoning, and meeting voters at community events. I’m sincerely grateful for their support.”
Earlier this week Senator Hall rolled out a major endorsement from the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 770.
