There are fourteen Hawthorne residents interested in filling the vacant seat on the Hawthorne city council. The seat opened with the election of Alex Vargas to mayor. Each candidate was allowed to speak three minutes at a special city council meeting, on January 19th. The agenda listed a possible swearing in ceremony, had a candidate been appointed that night, which no one was.

One former councilmember, who lost this election cycle, has placed her hat back in the ring. The candidate who received the 3rd highest votes, by the people, would have been the obvious choice, to be appointed to the seat. Unfortunately, that did not happen. Are her close ties to former Mayor Chris Brown the issue?
Will the council appoint based on what voters want or who they want?
Council will convene another special meeting, this Thursday, January 28, 2016, at 5:30pm to decide what to do next.
