The Los Angeles Times is reporting the conviction of former Los Angeles city councilman Richard Alarcon and his wife, have had their convictions overturned by an appellate court. The judge ruled jury instructions were “improper”.

The 2nd District Court of Appeal justices found fault with Superior Court Judge George Lomeli’s handling of the instructions, ruling that “we cannot conclude that the instructional error was harmless beyond a reasonable doubt.”
They ordered that the case be remanded to the Superior Court.
Part of the evidence used against Alarcon and his wife, during their trial centered around allegations Alarcon didn’t live in the district he represented, were their water bills, specifically, the lack of usage you would typically find for people living in a home, on a daily basis.
The Black community wonders if the conviction of former Senator Rod Wright will also be overturned on appeal.

They can’t let this issue die. I hope they bring it back for a new trial. Too many politicians are getting away with this in many cities. Compton included.
