Which station(s) continue to dominate the air waves? It has been a few months since we last checked in on the ratings for the Los Angeles market, paying close attention to those with an urban format. 2 Urban Girls is a little shocked at the latest rankings of the “Big 4”.

It’s not surprising that iHeartMedia’s KRRL (Real 92.3) continues to dominate the ratings. The bidding war for on-air personality “Big Boy” has yielded unprecedented returns, for the new station on the block. Surprisingly, after his departure from Power 106, his former station remains in the #2 slot.

Meruelo Media, owners of 93.5 KDAY, previously added the Art Laboe Show to its Sunday lineup, and program director, Adrian Scott, finally went head-to-head with Big Boy, by putting “Tha Goodfella’s” in the coveted 5:30am-10am time slot.
Fox 11 has also assisted with promoting the radio personality’s by having them appear on the nightly 10pm newscast, after the airing of the networks hit show Empire. Meruelo Media also owns KWHY-TV, an affiliate of MundoFox, a spanish language network launched by Fox in August 2012.
“We are setting out to be the premier minority-owned media company in the U.S.,” said Otto Padron, a former top Univision Communications programmer and current chief operating officer for Meruelo.
