What is going on inside of Inglewood Unified’s City Honors Preparatory Academy? City Honors quietly and voluntarily forfeited their right to remain a charter school as of 7/1/2014. Documents submitted and received by the California Department of Education (CDE) served as notification, City Honors would no longer function as a dependent charter, within the Inglewood Unified School District (IUSD). This information was not disseminated to Inglewood stakeholders. As a result, many students and parents are concerned about whether the curriculum and standards will remain in tact and most importantly, will students continue to be able to take college classes at local colleges.

The two most important issues, as defined by parents, are the safety and cleanliness of the IUSD campuses.
There are no campus security and/or school police assigned during the school day. Traditionally, charter schools do not utilize the same resources as regular IUSD schools.
A student from City Honors went a step further and utilized the Compton Herald to complain about the issues related to the upkeep of the girls bathrooms. As the new state appointed administrator, Vincent Matthews, goes on his listening tour, 2 Urban Girls is hopeful he is doing more listening to the students and will adequately address both the safety and hygiene issues, that remain unresolved from the previous state trustee.

**update**
2 Urban Girls visited the school site and is happy to report Dr. Cain is addressing the issues. The students are very lucky to have such a proactive principal and staff. This is Dr. Cain’s first year serving as principal of City Honors.

Please, please check your facts on this statement, “City Honors quietly and voluntarily forfeited their right to remain a charter school as of 7/1/2014. Documents submitted and received by the California Department of Education (CDE) served as notification, City Honors would no longer function as a dependent charter, within the Inglewood Unified School District (IUSD)”. It is not true! NO one at CH was aware of the application to no longer function as a dependent charter. No meetings were held with employees of CH, students of CH, parents of CH, community stakeholders of CH, businesses that invested in CH and gave our students internships and mentorships!
What would be the reason for us to vote and agree to this? Has anyone mentioned a vote? This was done via no school board, no advisory board knowledge. There was a vote to create the dependent charter so why wasn’t there a vote to end it?
There is something fishy going on and the community has no idea. I encourage you to call the CDE and see who filed the paperwork. Also, July 1st is when school was out of session – no teachers were aware of this because we were all starting our vacations and most likely would have not attended a board meeting at this time. It’s all a crock of crap and the person that did this is no longer the head of the district. CH should have its charter reinstated for the year that it lost! Not fair! Not fair! Our students have suffered and lost valuable course offerings and teachers because of the basic-ness of the school now. Please, FACT CHECK!
Sounds like you made the case of why this move was made “quietly”. When did staff find out? This author only found out due to inquiring about the name change. Will look into the application and signature, as you requested.
Faculty and staff found out after the school year began in the fall of 2014.
