It’s a great day in Compton! After pledging millions of Beats by Dre proceeds to the University of Southern California (USC), Andre “Dr. Dre” Young announced he will be donating all of his proceeds, from his new album Compton, the soundtrack to the forthcoming film Straight Outta Compton, to fund a performing arts and entertainment facility in the City of Compton.[adsenseyu2]
The residents in Compton were initially confused as to why Dr. Dre made his first huge investment with USC but 2 Urban Girls sees this relationship with Compton as being a direct benefit to the city for years to come.
“I’ve been really trying to so something special for Compton and just couldn’t figure out what it was,” Dre told Rolling Stone magazine.
Although Dr. Dre credits current Mayor Aja Brown with this idea, long-term residents know the idea of a performing arts center was initially vocalized by the former Mayor Omar Bradley.
Either way, it’s a great win for the city of Compton residents.
You can purchase the album tomorrow, August 7th and hear the premier tonight on Apple Music at 6 p.m. PST.
