Barragán’s First Fundraising Report Exceeds Hall’s First Fundraising Report in CA-44

nanette-hero-imageDoes Senator Isadore Hall III have reason to worry?  Hermosa Beach mayor pro tem, and darling of the environmental community, Nanette Barragan has out fundraised the Senator, according to 1st quarter financial filings.  With an impressive list of endorsements, Barragan is the most qualified candidate to ever run against Hall.  This congressional race is shaping up as the one to watch.  Many consider Hall the “frontrunner” but Barragan is definitely showing up and showing out!

SAN PEDRO, CA – Today, July 15, 2015, Nanette Barragán, Democratic candidate for California’s 44th congressional district, released her first quarterly campaign finance report detailing more than $160,000 in donations raised. Her total exceeds the $147,000 raised by State Senator Isadore Hall in his first fundraising report.

“There is a clear choice in this race,” Barragán said.  “I’m running to be a voice in Washington for the working men, women, and families of our district — not the oil and gas industries.  Our first quarterly report shows that people are hungry for a candidate who puts working people ahead of powerful special interests. I grew up in this district and this community’s concerns are my concerns. I won’t let Big Oil decide who represents us in Congress. This is only the beginning. We have the people and the momentum on our side and we’re looking forward to the road ahead.”

Barragán, the daughter of immigrants from Mexico, grew up in Carson and the surrounding areas where she attended Stephen M. White Middle School, learned to swim at Carson Pool, and studied at the Carson Library. She worked her way through UCLA and law school at USC before becoming a long-time advocate for the environment and the first elected Latina member of the Hermosa Beach City Council. She was also a leader in the fight against Measure O, a ballot measure that would have allowed oil companies to drill for oil in the Santa Monica Bay.
