Two superintendents have announced they will be leaving their respective school districts this year. Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) board members will be tasked with finding a replacement for Ramon Cortines, while State Superintendent of Public Instruction will have to replace the excellent Dr. Don Brann at Inglewood Unified School District (IUSD).

Ramon Cortines announced his resignation during the June 23, 2015, regular school board meeting. Cortines returned to LAUSD after the Dr. John Deasy resigned amid a scandal over spending bond money on ipads.
Cortines is no stranger to scandal himself. LAUSD employee Scot Graham has filed a third lawsuit, this year, against the administrator, alleging sexual assault and the districts failure to address his concerns.

This is ironic considering a well respected teacher is being investigated, and was removed from the classroom, for allegations made against him dating back forty years.

Dr. Don Brann is the 3rd state appointed trustee IUSD has had since going in receivership in the Fall of 2011.
Dr. Brann has been under increased pressure to dispose school assets, in order to satisfy the repayment of the loan provided under SB 533. The city and school district have already agreed to sell property at the Worthington Elementary school site in November of last year.
KPCC reporter Adolfo Guzman-Lopez attended the regular school board meeting, June 29, 2015, where after Dr. Brann presented the first balanced budget in years, he also stunned those in attendance by announcing he will be leaving this year. Guzman-Lopez made shared the announcement via social media.
State Superintendent Tom Torlakson will now be tasked with deciding whether to replace him with someone with an education background or someone with no school administration experience.
