The City of Compton’s City Clerk’s office has finished counting the provisional ballots and have a final tally of votes for the June 2, 2015, run-off election for Districts 1 and 4.
Incumbent Janna Zurita received 892 to Richard Alatorre’s 795.
Incumbent Dr. Willie Jones received 404 to Emma Shariff’s 507.
Congratulations to Janna Zurita and Emma Shariff. For the 1st time in the city’s history, there is a majority female council.
Election results will be certified at the next city council meeting.

This election cost the taxpayers of Compton around $70,000 just to elect two councilpersons. Only 11% of the registered voters bothered to vote, which is only about 2.5% of the total population of Compton. While elections are necessary, this election was almost a waste of taxpayer money. I would like to suggest that for the 2017 election the City Clerk think about a total VBM election to save money. This would eliminate the cost to rent out polling places and pay the people to work the polling places. It may also get more people to vote. In my opinion, voting for your local councilpersons is more important than voting for the President. Every week your local councilpersons vote on issues that affect your life and quality of life. I am dumbfounded as to why most of the citizens of Compton do not care who is making these decisions that affect their lives. But, for those who did not vote but could have, if you don’t like the way things are going in Compton today, be sure to vote in 2017. Otherwise, deal with it.
To two 2UG noticed:
1) Appears the same number of votes, separates the winner from the loser;
2) Latino’s must be happy with the two representatives they have for D1 & D2;
3) Can the polls be moved to either Best Buy, Friday’s or Target;
4) Candidates backed by the mayor keep losing so can she support opposite next election, to get in who she really wants.
Isaac Galvan is the line man up there with four women. 2UG looks forward to watching how this goes and hopefully the city clerk finds a way to get the council meetings on youtube or on a better platform for the website. They’re too hard to watch if you don’t have Time Warner.
