The Los Angeles NAACP held their annual Freedom Fund Awards gala where they honored several prominent African Americans. LA City Council President Herb Wesson, Dr. Gloria Zurveen of the Pace Newspaper and Curtis Simpson of the Simpson Family Mortuary. So what’s the big deal? The LA Sentinel is reporting the Simpson Family Mortuary recently had their license revoked for burying the wrong people.

After a successful 14-1 vote, The Los Angeles City Council voted to raise the minimum wage to $15 per hour. Powerful union leader Rusty Hicks, was quoted in the Los Angeles Times as seeking an exemption for employers who have union members. Many speculate this is a tactic to increase union membership and subsequent dues. After community uproar, Hicks posted his point of view on the LA Raise the Wage campaign website countering the article.
