I came to know Kimberly Briggs through her courteous and professional service as Media Deputy to Councilman Bernard C. Parks. Our first encounter came when 2 Urban Girls inadvertently posted incorrect information about CM Parks on our Twitter page. When we inquired on an interview, she accommodated in a timely manner. CM Parks responded personally, by hand.
Ms. Briggs is very responsive to constituents and media alike. Whenever I reach out to her she responds, without regard to if it is after hours and/or a weekend. I vividly recall conversing with her late one Friday evening. She is dedicated and clearly committed to her job.
As CM Parks media deputy, whenever you see him on TV, hear him on the radio, or the occasional appearance on CBS’ Bold and the Beautiful, it is because of her. She has worked with the media for the last four years and is a graduate of the University of Southern California (USC).
2 Urban Girls asked Ms. Briggs, what advice do you have for young girls about breaking stereotypes in order to follow their dreams?
I don’t let the misconceptions or pre-conceived notions of others stick to me. I’m confident in my ability to do my job and exceed expectations. That being said, I think it’s important to always be ‘on’ because people are always watching and can dismiss you off of one simple interaction or even a wrong first impression. I think it’s important to know that you can’t please everyone and not everyone will like you- you just have to know who you are and what you stand for and show how you’d be a valuable and unique asset to any said organization/job.
