Memorial Day weekend is upon us and all of us in Inglewood are awaiting word on SB1132, the senate bill calling for a moratorium on fracking. This is especially crucial for we are also in the smack dab middle of a highly contentious Assembly race for the 62nd district.
Autumn Burke is being attacked for alleged ties to oil companies, in part because of PAC’s that are sending out mailers on her campaigns behalf. Burke has since returned money to oil companies. Burke is also being attacked for wanting to frack in LA county, but that could be determined before election day, June 3rd.
On the other hand, Simona Farrise is spending her own money and has aligned herself with a community based newspaper from Inglewood. Farrise was seen campaigning over the weekend with the Morningside Park Sustainability club, who champions Farrise as an environmentalist, but hasn’t publicly asked elected officials to ban fracking in the City of Inglewood. Which begs to question, why would a woman spend a nearly $2M of her own money to win this seat? She just unsuccessfully ran for a seat within her own lawyers groups.
The Inglewood Unified School District (IUSD) was seized for the exclusive intention of moving students out of public school buildings and into oil financed charter schools, so that properties could be sold and drilled upon. Tom Torlakson and Dr. Don Brann have YET to explain where $29M of YOUR tax dollars have been spent since assuming control of IUSD.
California State Senate Bill 1132, calling for a moratorium on fracking, will be considered by the Appropriations Committee for vote before the full Senate after deliberations conclude Friday.
There are still a few Senators on the fence on how they will vote.
Anyone care to place a small wager on the expected outcome?
