A couple of things stood out. Sebastian Ridley-Thomas was a no show, and fracking is the single most important issue to the residents in the 54th district, something fellow candidate Chris Armenta knows very well. Also of importance is the revelation that Freeport McMoran, new owners of previously owned PXP, was nominated as worst company in the world in 2012, by the Public Eye Awards (PEA). In the words of the PEA, this is an event to shame the world’s top companies for irresponsible corporate behavior. Who’s job is it in L.A. County to vet these companies before they are allowed to do business in our city? Barber shops and taxi are more heavily scrutinized than energy companies, and that’s a problem.
