Word on the Streets: Los Angeles

“Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler” Let the good times roll is the new anthem for Leimert Park residents.  It was recently announced that between the City of Los Angeles and LACMTA (Metro) there will be a subway stop at Leimert Park.

It appears this was a highly political and calculated move that thrust Damian Goodman of the Crenshaw Subway Coalition into the spotlight.  He has received accolades from the community and community activist Najee Ali is leading the charge to have the new Leimert Park station named in Goodman’s honor.

But here’s the tea…many in the neighborhood are looking to have Goodman run for Holly Mitchell’s assembly seat since she will be running for the vacated seat of Curren Price.  BUT…the very political community who used Goodman to get the subway now are looking to endorse either the chief of staff of Price’s or Jones-Sawyer’s office.

With the county supervisor sitting on the Metro board, and his son being the chief of staff to Price, is the move to name the Leimert Park stop after Goodman a means to appease him and have him step aside?
