What’s Going On: Proposition 8 Declared Unconstitutional

On Tuesday, February 7th, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld Proposition 8, which moved the legislation closer to the Ca Supreme Court.  Proposition 8 was designed to deny the right of marriage to gay couples.  The Federal appeals court found Prop 8 unconstitutional and that the only purpose of Prop 8 is to “lessen the status and human dignity” of gay couples.

This is a big step for the legalization of same-sex marriages in the State of California.  If upheld by the Supreme Court, California will join Connecticut, Washington D.C., New Hampshire, Iowa, Massachusetts’s, Vermont and Wisconsin, as states who legally recognize same-sex marriages.

What are your thoughts on the Federal courts decision?
