The Brown Act revisited

You may have heard the term “Brown Act” but don’t understand what it means.  The Brown Act guarantees public access to ALL public meetings.  This would include:

– City Council

– School Board

– Advisory Committees

– PTA Committees

If you are denied entrance to any public meeting taking place at ANY public school within the Inglewood Unified School District, you are encouraged to inform the state administrator as soon as possible.  EVERY public school within the district hosts the following public meetings on their campus which residents and community members are allowed to attend whether you have a child enrolled in the school or not.  Not sure of a what a public meeting entails? When the meeting includes individuals elected to serve on the committee.  All meetings are public and entered into public record, like:

SSC (School Site Council) this group is responsible for distributing Title I and Title III disbursements alloted to the school

ELAC (English Learners)

DAC (District Advisory Committee)

PTA (Parent Teachers Associations)

For a full list of meeting dates, visit the individuals schools website and click on calendars.  All meetings are held at either the school site or the Parent Center located at the school district.  The district took the time to create websites for each school, use them.  http://IUSD.net

If you are a presenter and/or speaker at a public meeting, your name and/or image may be used without your express written consent in content contained in either blogs, newspapers and/or periodicals.  Don’t want to be quoted in a meeting you are heading, have someone else moderate.

THE STATE HAS TAKEN OVER OUR DISTRICT, WE NEED YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT THROUGH PARTICIPATION, RAISING QUESTIONS AND GETTING INVOLVED!
