Election Results2November 3, 2015, election results for Centinela Valley, Compton, Hawthorne and Lennox.

Centinela Valley Union School District

Daniel Urrutia beat incumbent board member Lorena Gonzalez, 51.1 percent to 48.9 percent.

Board member Gloria Ramos, however, overcame a challenge by Vanessa Martinez, 59.6 percent to 40.4 percent.


Incumbents Micah Ali and Charles Davis both claimed victories in yesterday’s election.  Incumbent Skyy Fisher finished with approx. 600 votes.  Sandra Moss will join the Compton Board of Trustees, as she finished with the third highest number of votes.  The community is speculating as to whether the board will decide to appoint or hold a special election, for Davis’ vacant seat.

Controversial school bond Measure S passed with more than 55% of the votes.


Mayor Chris Brown was handily defeated by council member Alex Vargas.  Nilo Michelin retained his seat and a mere five votes separate Haidar Awad and Katrina Manning.  According to the Daily Breeze, there are still uncounted vote by mail and provisional ballots to tally.

Incumbent Olivia Valentine will not be returning to the dais.


Incumbent Angela Fajardo retained her seat and former board member, Marisol Cruz, will rejoin the dais, having received 29.3% of the votes.

    It has been rumored that Davis wants to appoint Bryan Parker, but Parker has told me directly that he does not want the position. If he had wanted to be on the board he would have run. I would hope he would appoint Barbara Calhoun.

      I forgot to mention that I am very disappointed in the voters for passing ‘S’. No one knows what happened to the last bond money the CUSD got, and now everyone is going to have to pay higher property taxes. And even if you rent your rent is going to go up because your landlord’s taxes are going up and you will be paying them.
