MLK Service Day: Bennett-Kew Elementary

2kckyIn conjunction with the Social Justice Learning Institute, Bennett-Kew Elementary 6th grade students planted fruit trees on their campus.  PTA helped put the day of service together as a 6th grade requirement.

For the first time, Mrs. Baptiste looked very happy to be participating in a school project on a regularly scheduled off day.  Oh how we miss the days of our favorite renegade principal, Mrs. Nancy Ichinaga who regularly kept our campus clean, not needing a special day of “service” to make it happen.  Hopefully those who attended the City of Inglewood’s MLK Festival, also completed the form to have a FREE fruit tree for their home as well.

A special THANK YOU to the Bennett-Kew PTA President Mr. Steve who works tirelessly, up to 12 hours per day, in order to ensure the success of the students at Bennett-Kew.  Next time you visit BK, stop in the Parent Center, room 13, and tell Mr. Steve for all his hard work!  Also thank you to the Social Justice Learning Institute for helping create a more sustainable Inglewood.
