Local Election Roundup

imagesThe latest round of elections in the South Bay were held yesterday.  Here’s a look at the races and results from those watched closely by 2UrbanGirls.

Compton School Board Trustees

Incumbent Satra Zurita was the top vote getter with Margie Garrett and Mae Thomas also returning to the dais.  Former long-term City Clerk and Community College Trustee Charles Davis, was also elected.

Lennox School District

Marisol Cruz came under fire for issues that arose at the cities top performing charter schools and perhaps her vote to keep the school under district control, caused her to lose her seat.

City of Hawthorne

Train wreck and almost convicted felon Danny Juarez is OUT and Chris Brown is IN!  Unfortunately community activist Katrina Manning was unsuccessful this go round, but hopefully consider a run for school board.  Angie Reyes-English was also re-elected.

Yes, indeed, it is a shame that Nasty Angie was reelected. What a sourpuss. Would have been nice to have someone with Ms. Manning’s poise, grace and respect for Hawthorne residents, but instead, we get more of Arrogant Angie. Keep trying, Katrina!

I wanted Katrina to win. Every time I ride down 116th St. over the speed bump in front of the church, her community spirit and safety of the kids always comes to mind.
