EMERGENCY APPOINTMENT OPPORTUNITY

PROJECT ASSISTANT

Emergency Appointment Opportunity for one (1) vacancy for a Project Assistant,

Class Code 1542.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The duties of an Emergency Project Assistant include but are not limited to:

•Assist with promoting civic participation in government and in the system of

Neighborhood Councils;

•Interpret documents and ordinances related to the governance of Neighborhood

Councils;

•Develop informal training and group programs to support the growth and

development of the system of Neighborhood Councils;

•Assist in development of outreach and educational material on Neighborhood

Council process;

•Interface with appropriate representatives from the Office of the Mayor and

various City Council offices, as well as representatives from various

Departments, Commissions and agencies of the City of Los Angeles;

•Responsible to periodically manage call center inquiries and provide technical

assistance to;

•Compile information and prepares reports related to project goal implementation

and achievement; and

•Completes special projects, as needed.

Qualifications:

•Working knowledge of techniques for effective community organizing;

•Excellent writing skills

•Good communication and interpersonal skills;

•Good computer skills; and

•Degree preferred but not required.

Notes:

1. A valid California driver’s license is required upon appointment.

2. Candidates must pass a City medical exam and a pre-employment drug

testing as required and mandated by Federal Law.

3. Applications are accepted subject to review to ensure minimum

qualifications are met. Candidates may be disqualified at any time it is

determined that they do not possess the minimum qualifications.

4. An emergency appointment is not a regular appointment. It is a temporary

appointment which may not exceed 365 days.

METHOD OF EVALUATING CANDIDATES:

An application review will be utilized to determine the most qualified candidates to

interview. Interviews may be held at a later date.
