Follow up interview with LA Mayor candidate Eric Garcetti

images2urbangirls had the pleasure of interviewing mayoral candidate Eric Garcetti back in February, prior to the primary election.  Here is the follow up to the initial interview.

Were you surprised that the voting was so close?

I am proud to have won the March 5th primary by 15,000 votes (4.1%) even though I was outspent by $3 million in Super PAC spending. I am confident in my people-powered campaign.

How do you gain the support of those who voted James/Perry?

I am proud to have earned the endorsements of Councilmember Jan Perry, Mayoral Candidate Kevin James and Mayoral Candidate Emanuel Pleitez, the other three candidates. We are going to work together to win in every part of Los Angeles. The voters are looking for an independent mayor and my record and the way the powerbrokers have lined up for my opponent demonstrates that.

Do you support the LAUSD possibly defunding Early Education and Adult Education?

No. I personally spoke out at School Board meetings to stop these cuts. Adult education is critical for our economic recovery. I will fight against the massive cuts to adult education to protect successful programs like the Van Nuys Aviation Mechanics School (which I already took action to save) and early education programs that are critical for our children’s school readiness.

A recent article appeared in the popular blog, Streetsblog LA, covering the issues surrounding street vendors, would you support measures to legalize?

I support our small businesses here in Los Angeles. The city must find a way to create entrepreneurship opportunities for street vendors while protecting traditional brick and mortar businesses.

Thank you Mr. Garcetti for your time for we know it is valuable.
