Event: PUBLIC RALLY AND MARCH MARKING 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF 1992 LOS ANGELES UPRISING

The 25th Anniversary of the 1992 Los Angeles Uprising will be commemorated with a mass mobilization that includes a public rally and march. Themed “The Future of LA is in South LA: A Community Vision for Health and Justice 25 years After the 1992 LA Uprising,” the event calls community members and allied organizations to gather in support of ending structural oppression that led to the 1992 Uprising and commitment to a collective transformation.

WHERE: Begins at intersection of Florence and Normandie, Los Angeles, CA

WHO: South Los Angeles Building Healthy Communities Collaborative (SLA BHC) is a part of The California Endowment’s 10-year strategic initiative of supporting the development of safe and healthy communities. The SLA BHC is composed of more than 30 community partners focused on uplifting a collective voice, elevating unique models of organizing and community leadership, developing community power, and creating community-based solutions to systematic oppression.

WHY: On the 25th anniversary of the 1992 LA Uprising, we’re bringing together over 35 community-led organizations for Future Fest. A rally, march and community festival to signify the historical importance of April 29th and to build community commitment to a vision for South LA’s future. A future that is innovative, inclusive and community-led. Future Fest is a community festival that will combine Arts, Advocacy and Community to celebrate South LA’s resilience, lift-up our community’s collective vision, and discuss community priorities for change to move forward. We’ll highlight a vision for transformation and health which preserves the integrity of the poor and working class people in our neighborhoods and points toward a future for the entire city that builds on South LA’s unique models of cross-racial unity and of model community-driven solutions.
