Lennox School District has new Superintendent

Former State Superintendent Kent Taylor

Former State Superintendent Kent Taylor

In a 3-2 vote, Lennox School District board members voted to remove Barbara Flores and promote Kent Taylor to the position of superintendent of the district.  Flores will receive the remainder of her salary through July 2014.  Taylor will receive a salary of $178,000 up from $165,000 he received as the second in command.

Kent Taylor was handpicked by State Superintendent of Public Education, Tom Torlakson, to lead the Inglewood Unified School District when the district went into state receivership.  Taylor would leave after two months on the job due to negotiations made with the unions, to the displeasure of Torlakson’s office.  Taylor would be replaced by LaTanya Kirk-Carter, who has since left the IUSD.

Many of the decisions implemented in IUSD, were done so at the direction of Sacramento, but would ironically be reversed upon the arrival of Dr. Don Brann.

Although board members from Lennox School District, who participated in the vote to terminate Flores’ contract, were recently voted out in the November 5th election, this vote marked their last pertaining to school district business.
