Compton Elections: City faces new environmental issues

Perhaps Compton Mayor Aja Brown Will Listen Now Compton Faces Yet Another Environmental Issue

The South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) has once again warned about the dangerous air hovering over Compton residents.  Mayor Aja Brown and her colleagues ignored pleas from SCAQMD as it related to the anticipated truck pollution attached to the Brickyard Project.  Compton Planning Commissioners also ignored the cancer risks associated with the project.  Current planning commissioners and council have zero experience with environmental issues. SCAQMD publicly announced new air testing in Compton and Paramount.  SCAQMD board members include Los Angeles council member Joe Buscaino, Los Angeles County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl and the Chairman is Bill Burke, husband of former Supervisor Yvonne Brathwaite-Burke and father to Asm. Autumn Burke.  What’s the relationship between the Burke’s and Ridley-Thomas’?  Where’s Betty Pleasant when you need her.

Demenno/Kerdoon has a long history of receiving violations concerning the discarding of materials from their plant, which always leads to a cleanup of the Compton Creek in the city’s third district.

Normal campaign contributions from Demenno/Kerdoon are $5,000 and are given to both incumbents and their opponents.  This year they gave Councilwoman Tana McCoy $500 for re-election .  ALL Compton Creek Cleanups take place in the third district.  2 Urban Girls wonders why.
