City of Gardena Mayor Paul Tanaka was defeated in his bid to become the next Sheriff of Los Angeles County, after receiving 25% of the vote.  Although Tanaka has been elected consistently by the residents of Gardena, since 1999, Angelenos instead chose to elect Jim McDonnell, the current police chief in the City of Long Beach.  Paul Tanaka spoke exclusively with the Urban Girl to deliver his post election comments to you.

I wish to thank our many supporters for their unwavering commitment during the past 15 months. They should all be proud of their efforts in running an honorable campaign.

I offer my congratulations to Sheriff McDonnell and wish him and the dedicated men and women of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department all the best as they renew their focus on fighting crime and making our communities safer.

This blog will continue to cover Paul Tanaka as he concludes his third, and final term, as the Mayor of Gardena in 2017.
