Autumn Burke is our new Assembly member for the 62nd District.  Autumn captured 75% of the vote to replace termed out Asm. Steve Bradford.  Autumn is the daughter of South Los Angeles political icon, Yvonne Brathwaite-Burke.

I came to know Autumn while on the campaign trail.  I would see her and her campaign manager, TIna McKinnor, at many community events, although she remained behind the scenes.  We were able to chat during these impromptu run-ins, which showed she was immersing herself in the issues in the community.  She could have easily relied on word of mouth or one of her staff to relay details surrounding the event, and it was refreshing to see her so active and visible.

I caught up with Autumn and was able to conduct a phone interview with her while she waited to board a flight to Sacramento.

She was very upbeat and positive during our call and stated emphatically, “I’m ready to get to work” said Autumn.

She discussed supporting City of Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts, who was re-elected with nearly 84% of the vote, to ensure Inglewood Unified School District (IUSD) gets back on track.  She specifically mentioned campus safety and returning IUSD to local control, as top priorities.

We joked about previous articles written about her and all of that is behind her and she is ready to do the job we elected her to do.

Keep up with Asm. Autumn Burke as we continue to follow her during her next journey.  I also have to thank the Community Show, for having Autumn as a guest on two separate occasions, to speak to the residents.  The Community Show airs every Sunday at 6AM on 93.5 FM (KDAY).

Autumn will be sworn into office on December 1st in Sacramento and will also have a swearing in, locally, and details will be provided closer to the date.
