Is there really an investigation into the City of Compton?

indexAlthough it has been widely reported that the City of Compton is being investigated, the timing is quite coincidental, noting that a trial for voter fraud was prepared to start last Thursday, August 7th.  The district attorney’s office called for the trial to be continued until September citing “possible criminal activity”.  It appears the investigation isn’t as cut and dry as one would think.

The first letter sent to Compton city clerkAlita Godwin was dated April 3, 2013, after the Emmy award winning KCET SoCal Connected story Compton: Corruption, Incompetence, or Just Business As Usual? aired in March 2013.

The district attorney’s office asked for documents from 2005-present and didn’t name any specific person, only their titles.  It specifically asked for documents related to: Bakely and Bunkley Investments and Mark Woods.

The second letter, dated July 31, 2014, asks for documents related to 2004-present and calls out specific names of every current city of Compton elected official.  The office is also requesting agendas and minutes that are available online via the city of Compton website.

What’s most telling is the omission of several persons who were actually on the council back in 2004:  Barbara Calhoun, Lillie Dobson, Isadore Hall III and Eric Perrodin.
