FCMAT report shows no growth in Inglewood Unified School District

IUSDFCMAT aka the Fiscal Crisis and Management Team has produced their annual assessment for Inglewood Unified School District (IUSD) and once again, it shows that IUSD is not addressing the concerns outlined in their findings.  Many high-ranking employees, who were directly involved in addressing the concerns, have found themselves out of a job and the district is scrambling to retain students.

“FCMAT remains concerned that the district lacks the ability and capacity to set priorities, implement systemic reform, establish high expectations for student achievement, manage resources, ensure accountability, and align practices” according to the report.

KPCC is reporting that in nearly every category the districts ranking went down.  Many schools still don’t have principals and school starts next week.

Nearly $7 million has been spent on architect fees for new schools, most likely out of Measure K, but the plans haven’t been submitted to the Division of State Architect as required by law.  Could explain why IUSD never received noise mitigation funding from LAWA.

Policies have yet to be updated in 23 years and there is no tracking system in place to account for severe employee absenteeism.

The article goes on to state many are questioning the leadership of Dr. Don Brann, but can he really be expected to correct twenty-three years of gross mismanagement in one?  Perhaps those individuals he let go could be brought back, expeditiously, to help him get us back on track.

In spite of the dismal report, for the second consecutive year, Monroe Magnet Middle School, continues to increase the schools API.  Kudos to Principal Brent Tilley, Assistant Vice-Principal Steve Donahue and the entire staff.  Excellent!
