City of Gardena residents and visitors were treated to one of the best artist lineups in the history of the 12th Annual Gardena Jazz Festival.  Headliners Dave Koz, Gerald Albright, Mindy Abair and Elliot Smith, serenaded the crowd with the melodious sounds of their saxophones and band.

Artist Euge Groove had everyone on their feet in anticipation of the quartet.

Guests also enjoyed Brian Simpson, Karina Pasian, Raffia and the Long Beach Poly High School Jazz Ensemble.

The staff was super friendly and went out of their way to ensure VIP guests were attended to.  The event featured a tremendous amount of volunteers, who were primarily Gardena teens, who were a pleasure to work with and very courteous.  The jazz festival was family friendly as seen by the many children who enjoyed their time as well.  Gardena PD provided world-class security and blended with the crowd.  I almost forgot I was in Gardena.

Of course I ran into many elected officials.  Senator Rod Wright, Asm. Steve Bradford and Reggie Jones-Sawyer and Inglewood councilman Alex Padilla.  I also got a chance to speak with Tina McKinnor, campaign manager for 62nd Asm. candidate Autumn R. Burke.  McKinnor and Bradford know how to work it on the dance floor.

Gardena City Manager Mitchell G. Lansdell attributed the success and growth of the event to the safety and world-class service Gardena Mayor Paul Tanaka has set for city staff.  Lansdell said “…with the right leadership, the city is able to host many family friendly events for Gardena residents and visitors to attend in a safe environment”.

I’m looking forward to attending their next event, the 5th Annual Food Wine & Cigar Festival, on Saturday, September 28th.  To purchase tickets please click here.
